How does the Opternative vision test work?

Last Updated: Mar 24, 2017 11:12AM CDT
The Opternative vision test is an accessible, affordable online refractive test that provides a prescription for glasses and contacts. The interactive test takes less than 10 minutes and follows the same subjective principles applied at an eye care professional’s office, where patients are asked to respond to a series of ophthalmological images. The Opternative vision test is performed using a patient’s computer screen (which displays precisely calibrated images) and smartphone (which records his or her answers to questions). Written and audio instructions guide patients through the test, which is made up of a series of vision questions. Based on a patient’s responses to the test and his or her medical history, an ophthalmologist will determine and issue an appropriate prescription or provide other clinical guidance.
