How do we control for "cheating"?

Last Updated: Mar 24, 2017 11:14AM CDT
The Opternative vision test is designed to be very hard to “cheat,” as our algorithms can identify when a patient is making selections that are inconsistent. Patients are reminded throughout the exam that the honest answer is the right answer and that it’s in their best interest to answer only to the best of their ability. In a traditional refractive eye exam, if people want to cheat, they can (by memorizing the eye exam chart, for example). When taking the Opternative test, individuals are unable to memorize a chart beforehand thanks to question randomization, pattern recognition software, and a double verification system Opternative uses to counter “cheating.”
